Creative Writing Familiarisation Tests
What they are, what’s included, and where to find them.
Creative writing can be one of the trickiest parts of preparing for the 11+, so it’s important that children feel confident and ready before any test. That’s why we’ve introduced our Creative Writing Familiarisation Tests.
What are creative writing familiarisation tests?
Families with an Exam Prep Plus subscription can now access Creative Writing familiarisation tests.
These familiarisation tests allow your child to practise applying key creative writing skills under timed exam conditions, helping them understand what to expect and build confidence in their writing.
Each test is carefully designed to reflect the style and expectations of creative writing tasks they’ll encounter in the real exam.
What to Expect from the Tests
- Format: Timed writing tasks lasting 30 minutes, giving your child a chance to practise thinking and writing under exam conditions.
- Prompts: They may be asked to write a story from a prompt or continue a story from a short reading passage, helping them develop imagination, structure, and vocabulary.
- Marking: Their writing will be marked thoroughly, with clear feedback showing where marks have been earned and where improvements can be made, helping them understand strengths and build confidence.
- Number of Tests: There is a set number of Creative Writing Familiarisation Tests. Each test can be retaken, but unlike other mock tests, the total number is limited, so planning when to take them will help your child gain the most benefit.
