How does Atom's adaptive technology work?

Laying the foundation

Atom uses your child’s date of birth to identify the topics they should be working on for their year group. This helps keep their learning aligned with the school curriculum, while also stretching them when they’re ready.

Adapting

Once the account is active, your child needs to use the platform regularly for it to adapt effectively - this is where the technology starts to work its magic!

Each time your child answers a question, Atom analyses the response. The algorithm tracks progress and selects questions at the right level of difficulty. This keeps learning engaging without becoming overwhelming.

Every question has a difficulty level. When your child answers correctly, Atom presents a harder question on the same topic later. If they answer incorrectly, Atom offers an easier question to reinforce understanding.

What if I want to help my child?

Atom adapts by analysing every answer your child gives. For this reason, independent work is recommended wherever possible.

If you would like to help during practice, you can enable Tutor Mode when setting a session.
In this mode, answers do not affect progress tracking or future question difficulty. This allows your child to explore topics freely while you support them.

Viewing & Interpreting Progress

As your child works through the platform, Atom tracks their performance automatically. Progress is organised by topic and can be viewed in detail on the Track page.
