How to use the performance section of your Parent Portal

For an in-depth look at the page, please watch the video below.

The Performance section of your Parent Portal allows you to track your child's mastery across the curriculum on Atom. This will help you to identify areas where your child is excelling and highlight topics where they may need further practice.

What is a mastery level?

Atom mastery levels help you keep track of your child's progress. These levels reflect how well your child is doing in their recent Atom work. This will take into account both the number of correct answers and the difficulty of the questions. The Mastery levels are in the Performance section of your parent portal, found on the main dashboard. Here you will see the mastery levels for each subject.

You can click 'See details' for any subject to see individual subject mastery scores.

How are mastery levels calculated?

Your child will have a badge that will say ‘Needs Practice’, ‘Good’, ‘Strong' or 'Master' in each subject. Each mastery level is calculated using the last 30 questions answered within each sub-topic. Atom’s technology will determine the difficulty level and if your child has answered the questions correctly.

What is a performance score?

Atom's performance scores help you analyse the progress your child is making on the platform. You can identify areas of strength and pinpoint specific areas for improvement.

What is the Year Group Comparison?

The Year Group Comparison tool displays an average score achieved by students in your child’s academic year group. If you are preparing for an exam, you will also be able to see the average performance score of an applicant on Atom for your child’s target school.

You can use this data to benchmark your child’s performance. You can also see how far above or below an average Atom student they are currently performing.

How can I identify my child’s areas of strength and difficulty?

To identify areas of strength and difficulty, scroll down to the topic breakdown section for each subject. Here, your child's performance will be broken down by topic and skill. This allows you to identify which are areas of strength, and any areas that may need further practice.

Below the topic breakdown for each subject - you will see areas of strength and areas your child can improve on. We recommend setting a practice in these areas. These areas will change as your child continues to progress on Atom Nucleus.

How can I see my child's progress over time?

Within the Performance page you can review your child's progress over time. You are able to do this for each subject using the Progress Over Time graph. This shows your child's average performance score each month. You can see how their mastery of each subject has changed during their time on Atom.

How can I improve my child’s mastery scores?

Atom’s algorithm will ensure that areas of difficulty are reintroduced into your child’s learning journeys. This will ensure your child is revising topic areas they’ve found challenging in the past. The learning journeys are adaptive, meaning that every question is designed to stretch and challenge your child. This aims to speed up their progress whilst never demotivating them. Using the learning journeys consistently will impact your child’s mastery scores.

If you want to target a topic area immediately, we’d recommend using Atom’s Custom Practice feature. Click on ‘View skills’ to set a skill-specific practice for your child to complete.
