What is the Baseline Assessment?
The baseline assessment is just a short calibration test to help kickstart the platform’s algorithm. There are 15 questions across each subject that your child can answer. There is no time limit, but it is adaptive, so they must complete it independently! It helps to ensure the work is set at the correct level for them from the beginning, and it will continue to adapt as they develop.
Why should my child complete the Baseline Assessment?
We recommend that your child completes the baseline assessment not only to familiarise themselves with using Atom School at home but also to support them with identifying subjects or topics they feel confident with, in addition to areas of the curriculum where they may need some additional support.
When your child completes the baseline tests, you will gain an initial insight into their ability level and progress. Using the detailed transcript for each test, you will have access to granular insights about your child's areas of strength in the curriculum and topics they find more challenging. You will also be able to gauge their exam technique using information on the time spent on each question.
Using this information, you may want to set your child some tailored activities to support them with the topics or question styles they have found more challenging. On Atom Home, you can create custom activities for your child to support them with building confidence in a particular skill or sub-topic. You can start your five-day free trial directly from your Parent Portal. For more information, please click here.
How should I interpret the results?
At the end of the baseline assessment, your child will be given a Standardised Age Score (SAS) in addition to plenty of valuable information about their areas of strength and improvement. These results are stored on your child's Score Card which can be accessed from your Parent Portal.

If I sign up for Atom Home, will the results of the Baseline Assessment affect my child's work?
The baseline assessment does not determine the difficulty level of the questions your child completes on Atom Home. The platform is constantly adapting every time your child answers questions in the learning journeys or through custom practices. This determines the difficulty level of the questions moving forward. The more accurately your child answers the questions, the higher the level of difficulty they will see.
